Family mourns drowning of Narere security officer

A time for celebration and joy has turned into a tragedy for a family of Narere.

26-year-old Abdul Hussein’s family is mourning his passing away, just two months after Hussein’s wife gave birth to their daughter.

Hussein who was a security officer is believed to have drowned while swimming with a group of boys in the Korolevu river, in Wainunu in the Northern Division yesterday afternoon.

His brother Abdul Sabbir said Hussein had gone to visit his in-laws in Bua with his wife and two children.

Sabbir said Hussein had planned to celebrate his daughter’s birth in Bua with his in-laws.

Sabbir added the news of his brother’s death has shocked the entire family and they are now making arrangements to bring his body to Narere where they want to perform his final rites.

Police said a post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death as investigations continue.

The drowning toll currently stands at five compared to one for the same period last year.
