Two evacuation centers that were opened in Vatuwaqa, Suva yesterday to accommodate families affected by flash flooding have been closed and families have returned home.

Marcellin Primary School and Marist Champagnat Institute were operational yesterday afternoon after flash flooding affected many families in the Suva area.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Office is working with authorities to monitor a landslide that occurred at Kula Street in Samabula, Suva yesterday afternoon as a result of continuous heavy rain.

The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain will be affecting the Fiji Group for the next few days.

Expect occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

Also expect occasional showers, heavy at times and isolated thunderstorms over Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, the Western parts of Viti Levu including Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki and interior of Ra, Ba, Nadroga and Navosa.

They say expect cloudy periods with some showers in other parts with showers becoming heavy with frequent thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas.
