The Fiji Rugby Union wants an overseas coach for the National 15s team.
FRU Chairman Filimoni Waqabaca said the rugby union is now working on its submission to be given to the National Sports Commission to get funding for an overseas 15s coach.
Waqabaca said the FRU is also aiming to get money from the Sports Commission to fund Digicel Fiji 7s coach, Ben Ryan’s package.
Some serious thinking needs to take place due to our embarrassing performance in 15s rugby.
Our ill-disciplined Flying Fijians set a new record at international level after being shown five yellow cards on their way to a 37-31 test defeat to Italy yesterday.
Until yesterday morning, Italy had shared that record on four yellow cards with Georgia and England.
Fiji’s five cards means they now top the table for the amount of yellow cards by one team in an international game.
Akapusi Qera, Asaeli Tikoirotuma, Sakiusa Matadigo and Nemani Nadolo were all sent to cool down for 10 minutes between the 20th and 28th minute of the match, allowing an unconvincing Italy to build a 20-5 halftime lead.
Sisa Koyamaibole was sent to the sin-bin in the second half.
