FRU board steps down

FRU board steps down
All the board members of the Fiji Rugby Union have stepped down from their positions.

This has been revealed by Sports Minister, Filipe Bole a few minutes ago after Bole met with FRU's Interim Chairman, Rafaele Kasibulu and FRU Chief Executive Officer, Keni Dakuidreketi.

Bole, Kasibulu and Dakuidreketi met this morning and they are currently meeting to finalise the agenda and date for a Special Annual General Meeting of the FRU.

Bole said the outgoing FRU board members have also confirmed that they will not stand for re-election during the Special AGM.

The Sports Minister also stressed that the board members stepped down on their own accord.

He also said the Special AGM has to be held as soon as possible as the FRU AGM is scheduled for April, which is too far away.

Bole said he is also happy that FRU has taken on board government's suggestion that the FRU board stand down and as a result they have confirmed that the new FRU administration will take the $3M grant and work with the Ministry of Finance on how the money will be utilised for the Fiji team's preparation and participation of the Rugby World Cup.

Bole said any discussions on the current issue will only be between him, Kasibulu and Dakuidreketi.

He also said the FRU lottery issue is an independent one altogether and FRU has to sort the matter out with the Commerce Commission.
