Come 2015, the Fiji Roads Authority will look at one major project to the next stage of its investigation and that is the possibility of having an inland highway that would cross Viti Levu from Nadi to Suva.
Fiji Roads CEO Neil Cook said it has been a productive year for the Authority with a number of major projects being generated this year.
Cook said another project they will be looking at on its next stage of investigation is the proposed new wharf/port at Valaga Bay, Savusavu.
Cook said for next year’s plan on the major capital projects front, they will see the Buca Bay Road project completed, substantial further progress made on the Nabouwalu-Dreketi upgrade as well as the major upgrades in Nadi and Suva.
He added with so many major projects already underway, there are no new ones planned for startup in 2015 but they will be preparing the staging plan for the ultimate 4-laning of the Nadi-Lautoka road.
Meanwhile, Cook said work on the four lane road from Nadi Airport to Wailoaloa is progressing well with Higgins mobilizing on site and work is now starting from the airport end.
Cook also said over 100km of road will be resealed and a further 35km will be fully reconstructed.
Cook said they will continue with their programme of new and upgraded rural roads with an allocation of $20 million to progress major works on 13 rural roads across Fiji.
