FEMAT team to Vanuatu reminded they are not only representing the Ministry but Fiji as well

Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr Jemesa Tudravu reminded the 12-member Fiji Emergency Medical Assistance Team for Vanuatu that they are not only representing the Ministry of Health while out there, they are representing Fiji as well.

While farewelling the team, Dr Tudravu thanked the team for accepting the call to represent Fiji in helping our Pacific neighbours in Vanuatu.

He thanked them for their sacrifice, saying he knows it is not easy leaving their loved ones and family behind to carry out this duty.

FEMAT is currently the Pacific Island’s first WHO-verified international Emergency Medical Team that is trained to respond to emergencies and disasters in Fiji and across the Pacific.

With support from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the self-sufficient team of health professionals can be deployed in times of crisis.

The FEMAT have already provided assistance to those in Vanuatu in March 2023 after TC Kevin and TC Judy struck.

The team departs for Vanuatu tomorrow.
