The President of the Fiji Employer's Federation said while it's a good idea for FEA to request business to generate their own electricity, he questioned as to who will subsidize the extra costs that will be incurred by the businesses.
Speaking to Fijivillage Dixon Seeto said the FEA should be clear on how and what they plan to do in accounting for the extra costs that will be incurred by these businesses.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Electricity Authority has today clarified that continuous low rainfall in the Monasavu areas and the latest weather forecast report received from the Meteorological Center has forced FEA to request 40 businesses to generate their own electricity.
CEO Hasmuk Patel said water level in the Monasavu Dam continues to decrease and urgent steps should be taken now.
The Fiji Electricity Authority had yesterday announced plans to request 40 businesses to generate their own electricity to share the load as the Authority will only be able to cater for residential areas.
