Tropical Cyclone Keni Cat 1 threat track map as of 7.24am this morning (09-Apr-2018)

An active trough of low pressure remains slow moving over Fiji and this is expected to result in heavy rain and flooding.

Please be advised that a heavy rain warning remains in force for the whole of Fiji.

Periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms and localised heavy falls may lead to flooding.

A flood alert remains in force for low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to downstream of Vatukacevaceva to Rakiraki Town and Emuri to Semo Village - Tuva River.

The Tropical Depression that was located to the far west of Fiji has developed into a Tropical Cyclone.

The centre of Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Keni was located 800 kilometres west-northwest of Nadi earlier this morning.

Nadi Weather Office Director Ravind Kumar says Tropical Cyclone Keni is expected to move South East wards towards Fiji. It is expected to pass close to land areas and it has the potential to further intensify to a Category 2 or Category 3 Tropical Cyclone because of favorable environmental conditions for further intensification.

Tropical Cyclone Keni forecast track map as of 7:19am this morning (09-Apr-2018)

A strong wind warning remains in force all for all land areas and waters of Fiji.

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the whole of Fiji.

The Weather Office says that people in Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Kadavu and nearby small islands, Lomaiviti and Southern Lau Group can expect periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms, flooding of low lying areas including sea flooding of low lying coastal areas.
