Australia's Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer has commended the stance of the European Union to ensure that Fiji returns to parliamentary democracy in March 2009.
While speaking to Village News in Tonga, Downer said he knows that the EU will only release more than 300 million dollars worth of aid when the commitments made by Fiji are met.
Meanwhile, European Union Commission's Director General for Development and Relations for ACP, Stefano Manservisi hopes that good sense will prevail and Fiji will go to the polls by March 2009.
Manservisi said they will continue to have dialogue with Fiji to ensure that its target is met.
