Please do not leave your children unsupervised.

This is the renewed call from the National Fire Authority to parents and guardians after a one year three month old baby girl lost her life as she was trapped inside her burning house in Mead Road yesterday morning.

Initial investigations in relation to the fire incident revealed that the fire could have started from one of the beddings.

National Fire Authority Chief Executive Officer, Jone Koroi said they are still working with the police to determine the cause of fire and have reiterated their call for parents not to leave their children unsupervised.

The NFA told Fijivillage news that they received a call just before ten yesterday morning and when the fire fighters arrived at the scene the house was engulfed in flames.

The fire fighters fought hard to contain the fire from spreading through the squatter settlement, however they were not able to save the house.

NFA also said that three boys and a fifteen month old baby girl were alone in the house and while three boys managed to escape the fire, the fifteen month old girl got trapped in the fire and lost her life.

Following the tragic incident, NFA Chief Executive Jone Koroi said the unforeseen incident could have been avoided.
 
Koroi told Fijivillage news that four children with the eldest only three years old were left unsupervised by their parents when the fire started.

Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said they are still investigating.
