The mobile phone competition is heating up and the ultimate beneficiaries from the competition will definitely be the consumers.
Today one of Fiji's mobile phone service providers, Digicel has announced their new rate of 5 cents a unit for all their customers.
Digicel Fiji's New Chief Executive Matt Davey said the new rate was introduced, as there are a lot of promotions in the telecommunications market and they decided to have a special standard rate for their customers.
Under the new Digicel prepaid rates that were launched today, customers will see prices for calls and text messaging at an all time rate of five cents.
This will see Digicel users, paying only five cents for every 30 seconds they spend on the phone and 5 cents for a text message.
Davey added that this promotion would be a huge benefit to the public as the promotion would last indefinitely.
Digicel Fiji has also reduced its interconnectivity rates. The Commerce Commission had set the call rate from one mobile phone network to another at 23 cents per unit.
However, Digicel has announced that Digicel calls to other networks in Fiji will cost its customers 20 cents a unit.
Digicel calls to landline numbers in Australia, NZ, the US, the UK, India, China, Japan and Canada will cost 40 cents a minute.
