Digicel Fiji has been issued a 12 year Pay Television license by the Communications Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Sayed-Khaiyum said Digicel has been given a broadcasting license, a spectrum license and a special license to operate Sky Pacific.

The license was issued yesterday.

There are certain conditions of the license.

Sayed-Khaiyum said local advertisements and local content are not allowed on Sky Pacific.

Local content will only be allowed during natural disasters.

Sayed-Khaiyum said Digicel also has to pay a rebate to customers if Sky Pacific goes off air for any period of time.

He said there will be 24 channels on Sky Pacific and this will include a new channel called TV WAN.

Meanwhile Digicel Fiji Chief Executive Officer Darren McLean said he wants to thank the Fijian Government and the Minister of Communications, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum for his commitment in helping to turn this opportunity into a reality.

He said there is a lot more work to do to plan the transition from Fiji TV to Digicel ownership.

McLean said there is no change to Sky Pacific operations and channel lineup at this stage.

He said the focus in the short term is to keep the business focused and delivering for customers, while they plan the improvements that are necessary over the coming months.
