Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Employment Jone Usamate says dialogue on ethnic relations is important as we are heading towards elections next year.
Usamate highlighted this while opening Dialogue Fiji's discussion on Ethnic Relations at The Pearl Resort at Pacific Harbour.
He says dialogue is very important not only for Fiji but for the rest of the world for progress.
Usamate has also urged the participants of Dialogue Fiji's discussion to reach out to people on the ground and not only take the message, but action it themselves.
Dialogue Fiji in collaboration with the Citizens Constitutional Forum convened this dialogue on ethnic relations to bring together key stakeholders in the Fijian society and have discussions of interest.
Dialogue Fiji Executive Director Nilesh Lal says the three‑day forum is part of a project aimed at promoting democratic consolidation and dialogue in the Fijian context.
Lal says in order to address and strengthen ethnic relations and social cohesion, it is important that they deliberate collectively on key issues which divide us on political, ideological, socio‑economic, ethnic or religious lines.
