Defending PNC title is a good growth for a young team – Ikanivere

Fiji Water Flying Fijians captain Tevita Ikanivere believes that defending the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup title is a good growth for them as they are a young and developing team.

After defeating Japan 41-17 in the PNC final last night, Ikanivere says he was honoured to have led a side that was very supportive and worked hard together as a team.

He says he was surprised with coach Mick Byrne’s decision to name him as the captain of the team for this tournament but he was grateful to Byrne for believing in him.

Coach Byrne congratulated the boys and acknowledged their hard work on and off the field throughout the tournament.

He says it was a well-deserved win for a young team and he is honoured to be coaching a team with so much talent.

The team will now turn their focus to the November test matches against Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
