A house fire broke out last night at Visoko Circle in Nadera, damaging the home of a retired Indo-Fijian couple who have lived there for more than 30 years.
Neighbour, 79-year-old Mereseini Batinamu says she was enjoying a quiet cup of tea when the incident unfolded.
She says she heard the sound of her gate and went out to check when a neighbour rushed in to tell her there was a fire.
She says she was shocked and concerned for her safety as neighbours quickly helped her out of her home and took her to a nearby house as a precaution.
She says it was scary because she lives alone, and everything happened so fast.

Batinamu says fortunately no one was injured, as the homeowners were away at the time, having dinner with family in Vatuwaqa.
She described the owners of the house as a quiet and friendly couple who are both retired and well-known in the area.
She says it is heartbreaking to see this happen to their home, as her grandchildren have grown up with the couple's daughters, who are now married.
She says authorities responded quickly and were able to contain the fire before midnight.
We have sent questions to the National Fire Authority about the cause of the fire.
