The Ministry of Health and Medical Services Complaint Feedback line has shown that frontline nurses have poorly developed communication skills.
This was highlighted by Permanent Secretary for Health Phillip Davies while speaking at the Pacific Islands Health Research Symposium in Suva today.
He says that the local health and medical research community is inadequately involved in issues of Health Policies and Health Service Management.
Davies has also stressed that as a policy maker he has seen little being implemented despite a great deal of impressive clinical and epidemio-logical research taking place.
He hopes that through the Pacific Health Research Symposium, there will be a way to improve the communication skills of the frontline nurses.
Davies says that what constitutes Health Care will change over time and whatever role health professionals play should contribute to what a Health System can and should offer.
The Permanent Secretary has also urged the participants to have a robust workshop and to continue to challenge research and findings to better diagnosis, treatments and services in Health Facilities in Fiji.
The symposium is attended by health professionals, FNU staff, academics and students from FNU and other institutions from Fiji and across the region.
