Chaudhry questioned and released by CID

Former Prime Minister and Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry has been interviewed and released by the Police Criminal Investigations Department.

This is based on a tax investigation and more details are expected to be released later.

Chaudhry was taken in for questioning yesterday morning.

Meanwhile some overseas media outlets including stuff.co.nz's Michael Field are reporting that Chaudhry has been seized by the military.

However it has been confirmed by Fijivillage that he was taken in and questioned by the Police Criminal Investigations Department in Suva.

We have also received confirmation that two people are expected to appear in the Suva court today in relation to an alleged tax return scam.

Police Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the two people will appear in the next few hours.

Sokomuri confirmed that several FIRCA staff are under interrogation where it is alleged that they were setting up bogus accounts to claim tax returns.

FIRCA CEO Jitoko Tikolevu also confirmed to Fijivillage that currently two of their staff are being questioned in relation to fraud allegations.
