Fiji's Permanent Representative to the EU has told the UN Conference of Human Rights in Geneva that there are and will be certain limitations to the right of speech and freedom of the press in Fiji due to the current situation.
Peceli Vocea said the censorship of the Fiji media is in place due to national security reasons.
Vocea said the government believes that the media in Fiji is not responsible and balanced.
He said they now believe that through the media censorship since April last year, the media is now becoming more responsible.
The Working Group in the Geneva meeting presented Fiji with a total of 116 recommendations, and Fiji will now consider whether it will accept these recommendations.
