Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka supports the Constitution Review Commission’s recommendation for a two-term limit for the Prime Minister and the removal of the immunity provision however he says it will be up to Parliament to vote on them.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Rabuka says the recommendations came from the people who made submissions.
Rabuka then went on to say that the 2013 Constitution specifically states that no one should be discriminated against on the grounds of their health, age and other factors.
Rabuka says they will have to consider that provision, and if they do not change that part of the Constitution, it may contradict itself by imposing a term limit for the Prime Minister.
He adds that it is a good suggestion, but it will ultimately be up to the people.
The Prime Minister also confirms that the Constitution Amendment Bill that will be presented in Parliament this week will not be the same Draft Bill submitted by the Constitution Review Commission.
