Cathedral Secondary School in Suva will change its name to Sacred Heart College next Friday.

Catholic Church of Fiji’s Director of Education Pio Bosco Tikoisuva says the changing of the name was requested by the school board and approved by the Archbishop and the Ministry of Education.

The school will also have its 55th year celebration next Friday.

A member of the Cathedral Secondary School Old Scholars Association, Julie Bentley says there were a lot of mixed feelings when the idea was first brought up to change the school's name seven years ago.

Bentley says the new name will give them an identity with which they will be able to relate to other Sacred Heart schools overseas and they will be able to be one family.

She says the school uniform will remain the same but the badge has been changed and students will now wear ties.

The old scholars association is also organizing a family picnic at the school ground next Saturday.
