Casino developers agree to pay US$100k a month penalty
The developers of the proposed casino and convention centre, One Hundred Sands Limited say they will pay the Government USD$100,000 per month from 1st October 2013 until the casino is completed.

Penalty clauses in the casino license between One Hundred Sands Limited and the government will kick in from 1st October this year if the casino is not completed.

Speaking to Fijivillage One Hundred Sands Limited Chairperson Larry Claunch said they are obviously not going to make it by October 1st and they will work with Government.

Claunch said the project is going to take 12 to 15 months to complete.

“We understand the penalty and we understand the reasons for it and we are working with the government on that and we’ll get it paid and get it finished as fast as we can.”

Claunch said that the proposed casino and convention centre will be built at a new site which is near the entrance to Denarau.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has told Fijivillage that the penalty will start from 1st October as stipulated in the licence.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the government has been assured that construction will commence at the new location in Nadi by early next week.

Based on this, the deadline for the developers has been extended by a week.
