Cabinet endorses feasibility study for legislative framework to govern Fiji’s local kava industry

The Fiji Cabinet has endorsed that a feasibility study be undertaken on the need for a legislative framework to govern Fiji’s local kava industry.

While a Kava Bill was tabled in Parliament in 2016, it was not carried forward and subsequently lapsed meaning there is currently no specific legislation in place to support and regulate the growing industry.

The new feasibility study will build on the foundation of the Kava Bill 2016 and work to identify gaps and inconsistencies, with the aim of developing a robust and inclusive framework that will strengthen and expand Fiji’s kava industry both locally and internationally.
