Burger King provides $30,000 to support education for needy children

Burger King provides $30,000 to support education for needy children

Thousands of underprivileged children in Fiji are one step closer to accessing better education, thanks to a generous $30,000 donation from Burger King Fiji to the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children (FENC Fiji).

FENC Fiji National Executive Coordinator, Nirmala Nambiar says the support comes at a crucial time, as the foundation continues to respond to the rising demand from families struggling to afford basic education needs.

She says that with this support, they can reach more places, especially the Northern and Western Divisions and maritime areas, help more learning centres, and give important resources to families who need them most.

Nambiar says the foundation has helped about 39,000 children since it started in 2009, and the number is still growing as many families continue to struggle financially.

She says they want every child to get an education and become a good leader, instead of ending up on the streets or getting involved with drugs, which is a big problem in the community.

Burger King Fiji’s donation marks its largest annual contribution to date and is double the amount given in 2024.

General Manager of Burger King Fiji, Kavinesh Reddy says the company has supported the foundation since 2016 by raising funds through charity boxes in all seven outlets, and has so far given over $150,000 to help children’s education. He says education is the most powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty and uplift communities for generations to come.

He adds that many of the children supported by FENC come from deeply disadvantaged backgrounds, and through their partnership, they hope to help close that gap and give these children a fair chance at building a better future.
