Bible teacher takes stand for alleged rape of mute student
The trial of a bible teacher who allegedly raped a 17-year-old mute student of a special school will continue today in the High Court.

The man who has been charged with 8 counts of rape told the court that the girl gave her consent to have sex with him on 8 different occasions.

He also claimed in court that the victim and other girls have been writing love letters to him and also knocking on his room door during the odd hours of the night.

He said he informed his wife about this.

During cross examination, DPP lawyer Leba Koto asked the accused why he committed the offence as he is a married man with children.

The accused said they had consensual sex.

Koto also asked the accused why he did not report the issue that the girls were allegedly writing love letters and knocking on his door.

The accused replied that he was worried that the 17-year-old and other girls would be sent home.

The accused is represented by lawyer Naipote Vere.

The alleged incident occurred between April 1st and 30th 2011 at a school hostel.
