29-year-old Mikaele Kolikenakorotubu and 26-year-old Laisiasa Bavai

26-year-old Laisiasa Bavai has been granted bail while 29-year-old Mikaele Kolikenakorotubu has been remanded in custody for alleged unlawful possession of methamphetamine in Mead Road, Nabua.

They appeared before Magistrate Krishan Prasad this afternoon.

Prosecution had objected to bail, saying it's a case of public interest while Kolikenakorotubu has pending matters.

Bavai's lawyer says his right wrist has been operated on as it was dislocated and he needs rest.

He says that Bavai's charges are in relation to resisting arrest and obstruction and not for illicit drugs.

Magistrate Krishan Prasad granted a $500 cash bail with two sureties where bail conditions include not to re-offend while on bail, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses while a stop departure order has been placed.

Bavai is charged with resisting arrest and obstruction while Kolikenakorotubu is charged for alleged possession of methamphetamine.

It is alleged that 3 zip lock bags containing crystal substances believed to be methamphetamine and $5,560 cash were found during the raid.

The matter is adjourned to February 10th for plea.
