Bathurst 12 Hour driver Stephen Grove walks away after car goes airborne in horror crash

Stephen Grove has been taken to hospital for observation after being involved in a crash during the Bathurst 12 Hour race.

Grove's Mercedes hit an outside concrete wall at the Skyline section of the Mount Panorama Circuit during the third hour of the endurance event.

The car was sent airborne before it landed on all four wheels and slid along the track.

Groves remained in the car until climbing out unassisted and walking away from the vehicle.

The Bathurst 12 Hour website reported Groves was "badly winded" and taken to Orange Hospital for "further observations".

The crash followed Kenny Habul's attempt to pass Groves on the inside.

Habul, a two-time Bathurst 12 Hour winner, later apologised for his role in the crash.

"I'm sorry for the incident with the Grove car, I know I was side-by-side," he told the TV broadcast of the race.

"He slowed and moved over and I thought he was letting me through, so I'm really disappointed for them."

Habul did not received a penalty following the incident with Grove.
