Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama

The Army Commander’s post is expected to be substantively filled in the near future as the acting appointment is only for three months.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that the Constitutional Offices Commission had decided to delegate the Chairman of the Commission, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to make acting appointments for upto three months.

The Commission is responsible for providing advice to the President for the appointment of the Commander of the RFMF.

According to the constitution, the Commander is appointed by the President on the advice of the Commission, following consultation with the Minister responsible for the RFMF.

Meanwhile Acting Commander, Commodore Viliame Naupoto has not ruled out applying for the substantive post.

There are some suggestions that Colonel Jone Kalouniwai may get the post.

Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says this decision will not be rushed as Kalouniwai is holding a United Nations post.

He also says there are many capable officers in the RFMF.
