Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said any complaints of people abusing the Help for Homes Initiative after Cyclone Winston will be fully investigated by the Police.

Sayed-Khaiyum today confirmed in parliament that 22,083 homes have been assisted so far.

He said the areas covered include Vanuabalavu, Lomaiviti, Taveuni, Savusavu, Bua, Tailevu, Ra, Tavua, Ba and Lautoka.

MP Anare Vadei

SODELPA parliamentarian, Anare Vadei then raised concern that some people who have not been affected have received the Help for Homes Initiative while the people of Levuka who have been severely affected have not received much.

Sayed-Khaiyum said this claim can be investigated by Police.

Meanwhile he said the total number of people to be assisted is not known at this stage as every damaged house was not assessed after Cyclone Winston.

$70 million has been allocated for the Help for Homes Initiative.
