Allegations of human rights abuses by 3 Filipino seafarers under investigation – Fiji Govt

The Fijian Government says the relevant agencies are currently conducting investigations in relation to the recent allegations of abandonment by three Filipino crew members against their employer, Goundar Shipping Limited.

In a statement, the government says it takes all claims of abuse of human rights with grave concern.

It says if the allegations are substantiated, appropriate action will be taken against Goundar Shipping Limited including recovery of any outstanding labour entitlements due to the crew members.

The Fijian Government will also continue working closely with the Fijian Immigration Department to ensure the safe repatriation of the respective crew members.

We are currently trying to speak to Goundar Shipping.
