About 40 people are now unemployed after the Baobab Marine and Seal Superyachts Fiji in Port Denarau, Nadi was destroyed in a fire early this morning.

Owner Chase Smith says he was informed about the incident at about 12.30am and he just watched the building burn throughout the night as the National Fire Authority attempted to control it.

He says the cost of damages could be close to $5 million but an assessment needs to be done to ascertain actual figures.

Smith says no one was inside the building.

He adds it is unfortunate that people are now without jobs just when Fiji was opening its borders to international travellers.
