Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has revealed that 10 police officers die every year due to Non-Communicable Diseases.

While speaking at the closing of the Pacific Physical Training Instructors Course at Nasova this afternoon Qiliho also highlighted that from 2015 to 2017, 38 police officers had passed away due to NCD’s.

He says from several health audits in 2017, 63% of the 2,705 police officers were classified healthy and had a low risk of having fatal heart attack in the next 10 years.

The Commissioner says that the remaining 36.4%had a medium to very high risk of having a heart attack in the next 10 years, while close to 2%or 45 officers were classified high risk.

Qiliho urged the graduates from the training course to share their knowledge and help their respective officers battle NCD together.

22 individuals from different Pacific Islands and various forces graduated from the Pacific Physical Training Instructors Course including five from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and two the Fiji Police Officers.
