AVI Pacific People General Manager Thelma Savua and Leadership Fiji CEO Sharyne Fong.

AVI Pacific People General Manager, Thelma Savua says there is a large number of graduates coming through in Fiji who are looking for jobs and they have seen lawyers who are willing to do voluntary work.

AVI Pacific People is a Pacific-wide recruitment and business advisory service based in Suva that works with clients across all sectors to implement organization development and talent management initiatives.

They also develop plans that aim to deliver sustainable business results.

Savua says even when they do their recruitment for people with some level of skills, the number of new graduates that apply is very high.

She says this tells them that there is a huge demand for work and we are churning out more than we could use.

Savua adds on the other hand we have a surplus in some professions and are struggling in the trades department where we are bringing people from abroad to do tiling at the airport.

She says there is a mismatch with regards to what is coming out of tertiary institutions and what is needed on the ground. Savua says these issues can be addressed through consultations and better collaboration between industry sectors and tertiary institutions.

Meanwhile, AVI Pacific People has extended its partnership with Leadership Fiji for a further three years which aims to strengthen the existing relationship and hope to help in developing and enhancing the quality of leaders in Fiji.

While signing the MOU, Savua says they are pleased to support Leadership Fiji because the program has produced talented leaders that they can tap into.

Leadership Fiji CEO Sharyne Fong says they hope this mutual understanding will benefit both organizations.

Fong says their strategic vision is to establish a Leadership Academy for Fiji and the Pacific and to expand its offering of leadership programs to all levels of society.
