64 adult cardiac interventions have been successfully conducted free of charge at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Heart Hospital, marking the expansion of the hospital’s cardiac services from children to adults.
The procedures were conducted through the hospital’s state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory by a specialist team from India led by interventional cardiologist Dr Jayaranganath.
The hospital says a further 232 patients received free specialist cardiac consultations and heart screenings as part of the inaugural adult cardiac mission.
Hospital Director and CEO Dr Krupali Tappoo says they had made a commitment in April to extend the same free cardiac care provided to children to adults in Fiji, and that commitment has now been fulfilled.
Tappoo says they are grateful to Dr Jayaranganath and his team for providing their services to patients in Fiji.
Dr Jayaranganath says it was a privilege for his team to serve in Fiji and use their skills to make a difference in the lives of patients.
He says what makes the initiative special is that patients receive care without having to carry any financial burden.
Hospital Chairman Sumeet Tappoo says patients should not have to worry about how they will afford potentially life-saving cardiac care.
He adds that all services at the hospital are provided free of charge regardless of a patient’s financial circumstances.
