Police Commissioner Brigadier Sitiveni Qiliho says there are now five female officers serving in the UN missions which is equal representation with five male officers.

He revealed this during the Force’s International Women's Day celebration today.

The Fiji Police Force has a total of 4,756 officers. 1,065 are female officers.

Qiliho says they have changed a few things in the Force to give opportunities to women serving along with male officers by bringing in pepper sprays to make their job easier.

He says today is a great day for women around the country as we remember their achievements.

New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Charlotte Darlow says they are also promoting gender equality.

She says it's encouraging to see that 20% of women are serving in the Force.

The Fiji Police Force also took time out as part of their celebration to do community policing in Nadawa.
