Five cases of serious sexual offences have been withdrawn from the courts due to insufficient evidence, false complaints and inability to locate the complainant in March this year.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says a 20-year-old man was charged with the rape of an 18-year-old woman however this matter was discontinued after the victim admitted that it was consensual sex.

In another incident, a 48-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 16-year-old girl.

However the DPP’s Office says this matter was discontinued after the complainant admitted to making a false complaint.
