Four boys under 17 years of age and two police officers have been charged with serious sex offences in separate incidents in July this year.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, there were 29 people charged with a total of 76 counts of separate incidents in July.

There were 44 cases of rape, 2 cases of attempted rape, 1 case of assault with intent to commit rape, 1 case of abduction with intent to have carnal knowledge, 2 cases of indecent assault, 2 cases of defilement and 24 cases of sexual assault.

A 52-year-old police officer was charged with three representative counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of a 29-year-old woman. In another incident, the same police officer was charged with two representative counts of rape and seven counts of sexual assault of a 32-year-old woman.

The DPP has sanctioned the charges and the file has been sent to police to formally charge this officer.

In another incident, a 20-year-old police officer was charged with the sexual assault of a 22-year-old female police officer.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with two counts of rape of a 9-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy was charged with the rape of an 8-year-old boy and in another incident, a 14-year-old boy was charged with the rape of a 9-year-old boy.

The accused persons and the victims in these three separate cases are cousins.

In another incident, a 14-year-old boy was charged with two counts of rape of a 9-year-old girl. The accused and the victim were from the same village.

There were 30 victims of whom 16 victims were under the age of 18 years.

Of the 30 victims, there were 26 female victims and four male victims.

The DPP’s Office says there were 16 incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

A 56-year-old man was also charged with two counts of rape of his 24-year-old daughter while in another incident, a 44-year-old man was charged with two representative counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault of his 18-year-old daughter.

A 49-year-old man was charged with three counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and one count of criminally intimidating his 8-year-old stepdaughter.

In another incident, a 39-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 7-year-old stepdaughter.

A 58-year-old man was charged with the rape, sexual assault and indecent assault of his 16-year-old stepdaughter.

A 32-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 6-year-old niece while in another incident, a 41-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape and two counts of sexual assault of his 19-year-old nephew.

A 31-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 8-year-old niece while in another incident, a 42-year-old man was charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of his 12-year-old niece.

In another incident, a 30-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 16-year-old niece while in another incident, a 42-year-old man was charged with assault with intent to commit rape of his 17-year-old niece.

There was one incident of marital rape where a 39-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 32-year-old wife.

A 43-year-old man was charged with the sexual assault of his 41-year-old sister-in-law.

There was one incident where a 48-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl while in another incident, a 48-year-old man was charged with two counts of rape of a 23-year-old woman from his village.

There was one incident where a 37-year-old man was charged with two counts of defilement of a 16-year-old girl.

Six cases were withdrawn after discontinuances were filed due to false complaints, inconsistent and insufficient evidence and inability to contact or locate the victims.
