38-year-old man dies after intervening in a domestic dispute in Sakoca Settlement

A 38-year-old man has died after allegedly intervening in a domestic dispute in Sakoca Settlement in Tamavua yesterday morning.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu says the 38-year-old man who tried to intervene in a domestic dispute, allegedly lost his life as a result of injuries sustained after being assaulted.

ACP Driu says the man had gone to the couple’s home in Sakoca on the back of an invitation to continue drinking following a night out in Suva.

He says the suspect who arrived later to join the group allegedly got into a heated argument with his wife, whereby he assaulted her.

He further says the man allegedly tried to intervene when he was assaulted and struck with an iron rod causing serious injuries, resulting in his death.

The police say the suspect’s wife who sustained injuries was treated at the Valelevu Health Center and discharged.

They say the suspect remains in custody at the Valelevu Police Station as investigations continue.
