3 people amputated every day - Tabuya
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya

As Fiji faces the rising crisis of non-communicable diseases, 2023 Fiji Disability Monograph by SPC and Fiji Bureau of Statistics states the prevalence rate of disability increases as one gets older and 3 human beings are being amputated every day.

The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya stated this during the handover of the $1.2m worth of consignments to the Spinal Injury Association held at the National Council for Persons with Disability in Brown Street.

Tabuya says the report also highlighted that during the 2017 population census, those in the age of 5 years and above that had experienced mobility with some difficulty were 36,540 individuals, 54.9 percent females and 45.1 percent males.

She says for self-care with some difficulties, the Disability monograph also highlighted that there are 10,510 individuals, 53.5 percent were females and 46.5 percent were males.
