Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew.

Police involvement in drug-related crimes is a challenge for the Fiji Police Force, as 3 cases are currently in court, and more cases are being investigated.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew calls on the public to report any of their officers are allegedly involved in drug-related activities.

While speaking to the media at their Dog Unit in Nasese, Suva, Chew says it's true that some of the officers are involved, but there is due process to be followed, and they are taken to court.

He says if found guilty, these officers are sent home, and they are not fit to be in this organisation.

The Acting Police Commissioner adds that in order to safeguard our people, we need to work together because the Police cannot do it alone.

He is urging the public to report those officers to them and not just talk about it around the grog bowl.

When asked about other challenges faced by the institution regarding the ongoing issue of drugs, Chew says information sharing is a major challenge.

He says sometimes the information can be reliable, but they will need to verify first before setting up a team for a raid.

He further says sometimes, people report and then they go back and tell the criminals that the police are coming.

The Acting Commissioner also says that Police involvement is another challenge and people should be careful who they share or report the information to.
