About $2 million in revenue is generated into the economy every month from bauxite mining in Nawailevu.
This is according to Aurum Exploration Fiji Limited mine manager Vanuaca Basilio who said this is through various payments they make to government in carrying out the mining operations.
Basilio said the mining has also had a lot of benefits for the Bua community.
The bauxite mine currently has close to 150 permanent employees and 250 seasonal workers from around Fiji.
The first shipment of 60,000 tonnes of bauxite was sent to China earlier this month.
Bauxite is an aluminium ore and is the main source of aluminium.
