21 gun salute marks Fiji Day
A 21 gun salute was shot this morning at Albert Park to signify Fiji’s 42nd year of independence.

Despite the dull weather in the capital, a sea of blue and white colours brighten up Albert Park as at least 3,000 people from all walks of life came together as one to celebrate Fiji’s independence.

The Fiji Military Forces performed an exhibition including a military parade which was inspected by the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Dignitaries, students and even tourists were part of the celebrations.

Meanwhile, more than 200 people have joined in for Fiji Day celebrations at the old Capital.

Celebrations will be held at Nasau Park where Minister for Primary Industries and Acting Minister for Defence and National Security Joketani Cokanasiga is expected to be accorded a traditional iTaukei ceremony of welcome before entertainment kicks off in the Ovalau style.
