We admit that more manpower is needed in our police stations and that is why we are doing new recruitments.

This has been highlighted by the Acting Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu as 205 new police officers were part of the Basic Recruit Passout Parade at the Nasova Police Grounds.

Tudravu says they have been receiving complaints from the public regarding lack of officers at the stations.

He says these new recruits will be directed towards the various police stations around Fiji depending on the vacancies that they have.

Tudravu says they are anticipating 250 more new recruits to join in the next 2 weeks.

The Acting Commissioner of Police also says that those that cannot uphold the integrity or the ethics of the organisation are going out of the force.

Meanwhile Minister for Defence, Inia Seruratu says despite the ongoing public attacks against the work of the Fiji Police Force, they know that a lot of effort has been directed towards curbing crime, and this has resulted in a 5% reduction in overall crime from January to September this year.

Seruiratu says that he is gravely concerned about crimes against women and children.

He says 10 women have lost their lives at the hands of their partners and any loss is not only felt by the victim’s family but the nation.
