Police are currently investigating the death of the 19 year old female rugby player who allegedly suffered a spinal injury while playing in the ANZ Marama Championship for Nadroga this year.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says they are awaiting the results of the post mortem to ascertain the cause of death.

The 19-year-old who was in Year 13 at Sigatoka Methodist College passed away at her relative’s home in Nadroga, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is alleged that she had sustained spinal injuries while playing for Nadroga against Naitasiri at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, in June.

The injury caused her to be bedridden for almost a month.
