19-year-old student Faijiyalo Mara who stole Year 12 external exam papers to spend 3 months in prison

The 19-year-old student who stole Year 12 external examination papers that were kept at Lelean Memorial School has been handed a 3 months prison sentence and also a partially suspended sentence.

Faijiyalo Mara has been sentenced to 16 months imprisonment of which 13 months has been suspended for two years.

This means he will spend three months in prison from today.

Mara was produced before Nausori Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne.

Mara had earlier pleaded guilty to burglary and theft charges and had also waived his right to counsel.

The discovery was made by the Supervisor on Tuesday morning as some of the sealed portions of the exam papers were already open.

The matter was then reported at the Nausori Police Station.
