In less than 24 hours two lives have been lost due to two separate house fires.

This morning a two bedroom corrugated iron and timber house in Vatuwaqa was destroyed by a fire.

A 17-year-old student of D.A.V Boys College lost his life in this fire incident.

Grandfather Uday Narayan who was living opposite the house said they were awoken at 3.10am this morning by the sound of the explosion of the gas cylinder.

Narayan said the student’s father sustained burns after trying to save his son.

Narayan added the mother of the 17-year-old will arrive in Fiji today from Australia with his younger sister.

Meanwhile, an 18-month-old baby perished in a house fire at Tivi Road in Kinoya yesterday.

National Fire Authority CEO John O’Connor said when they arrived at the scene the house was fully engulfed in flames.
