A total of 149 new police recruits have officially begun their Basic Recruit Training at the Fiji Police Academy, with Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu reminding them that they now carry the responsibility of serving the nation with integrity and humility.

While speaking at the opening of the first intake for 2025, Tudravu emphasized that wearing the police uniform is a symbol of hope and comfort, not intimidation or abuse of power.

He says the uniform they wear represents hope, solace, and should be a comfort, and not one of discomfort, grief or burden. Tudravu says developing the wrong attitude, thinking they are better than others because of the uniform, their careers are bound to deteriorate.

The recruits will undergo four months of training, during which they will be taught not only law enforcement skills but also the importance of attitude and community service.

As part of the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to regional cooperation, ten officers from the Tuvalu Police Service are also part of this training intake.

This recruitment initiative is part of efforts to fill vacant and newly funded positions within the Fiji Police Force as it continues to enhance service delivery across the country.
