140 new born babies die every year
140 babies in Fiji die on average within 7 days of their birth with five to eight mothers dying per annum as a result of birth complications and insufficient post-natal care.

Health Minister, Doctor Neil Sharma stressing the need for better awareness and facilities for expecting mothers and their children, revealed these alarming statistics at the launch of the White Ribbon Campaign.

He said if nothing is done now, these figures could get worse.

Doctor Sharma also stressed that Fiji needs to take a stand now, as there are alot of facilities available which are under-utilised.
