A total of 139 community-based organisations benefited from the final phase disbursement of grants under the Multi-Ethnic Grant Programme for the 2025–2026 financial year, including 136 recipients from the Central Division and 3 from the Eastern Division.
While handing over the grants, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage & Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, highlighted the strong level of interest in this year’s programme from communities, noting that a total of 1,074 applications were received, of which 542 were approved following a thorough assessment process.
He says the total allocation for this year’s programme stands at $2 million, representing an increase of $700,000 from the previous financial year.
Singh adds that this demonstrates Government’s continued investment in empowering communities across Fiji.
The projects funded in the Central Division addressed a wide range of needs, including 29 solar initiatives, 26 shed material projects, 26 musical instrument programmes, and 22 renovation works.
The Minister says additional funding supported equipment purchases, fencing, accessibility upgrades, cemetery improvements, learning and development, and water management initiatives.
In the Eastern Division, the three supported projects focused on water management, renovation, and improving accessibility.
Singh emphasised that the programme continues to empower community-based organisations and supports initiatives that promote cooperation, development, and unity across Fiji’s diverse communities.
