11-year-old student commits suicide in Kadavu

Police are deeply concerned with a case involving an 11-year-old student who allegedly committed suicide yesterday.

The tragic incident occurred at the 11-year-old boy’s home in Kadavu and Police say initial reports received state that the boy was disallowed from accompanying his parents to Vunisea.

Chief of Operations, ACP Rusiate Tudravu says while they are not here to judge or criticize the involvement of any parties concerned, they are requesting parents and guardians to have an open mind regarding the concerns of their children.

Adults are advised to be vigilant and alert to any changes in the behavior of their children and be more attentive to their needs.

68 suicides and 69 attempted suicides have been recorded for this year.

Police say there were 6 cases of suicide where the victims were under the age of 16 years while there were 14 suicide cases where the victims were aged between 17 to 25 years.
