Ratu Sukuna was a statesman, a scholar, a soldier, and a true servant of the people – Ratu Wiliame

Tui Macuata and former President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere

Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna was a statesman, a scholar, a soldier, and a true servant of the people.

Those was the words of Tui Macuata and former President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere while opening the soft launch of the Ratu Sukuna Day celebration in Labasa.

He says Ratu Sukuna was a man ahead of his time.

Ratu Wiliame says Ratu Sukuna shaped the framework of modern Fiji, and his life was marked by sacrifice, vision and unwavering belief in the power of unity and education.

Ratu Wiliame says this celebration in the North is not only to honour the past but to inspire the future.

He says this is a platform to engage our young people where we can teach them that leadership is not defined by title or status but by service, resilience and a commitment to something greater than oneself.

The former President says over the coming days, we will celebrate through traditional ceremonies, educational programs, art music, and storytelling.
